Albany: Information & things to do

Albany is a port city in Western Australia, 418 kilometres west of Perth, and the oldest colonial settlement in WA.

Albany is also an important historical city as it was, in many cases, one of the last places where troops set foot on Australian soil during the First World War and therefore plays a prominent role in ANZAC Day. This historical city is home to several heritage buildings including the Old Farm (1827), St Johns Church (1841), and the Old Post Office (1869).

One of the main tourist attractions is the huge ship on the city’s foreshore, a replica of the Brig Amity that brought the first fleet of convicts onto the continent on the 25th December 1826. This replica has been made into a museum-like attraction where you can walk around the ship’s levels whilst learning its story.

Albany is also a nature-filled city with beautiful sandy white beaches, caverns, and national parks. You may also want to sample fresh oysters near Emu Point, which is also ideal for children due to its shallow waters.

Car Australia can pick you up from any pickup point you choose in Albany that’ll be most convenient for you.
